Harare, Zimbabwe – (African Boulevard News) – Zimbabwe is set to enhance its disaster management and law enforcement capabilities with the acquisition of a fleet of Russian helicopters. According to the Zimbabwean presidential communication office, of the 18 helicopters delivered, 12 are air ambulances while six are designed for law enforcement. The fleet will officially reach 32, with the remaining 14 expected to be delivered by the end of the month.
The move comes at a critical time for Zimbabwe, which has been grappling with a series of natural disasters in recent years, including floods and droughts. The new helicopters will significantly strengthen the country’s emergency response capacities, enabling authorities to quickly reach and rescue people in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
The helicopters will also provide a much-needed boost to law enforcement efforts in the country, which has been plagued by high levels of crime and violence. The six law enforcement helicopters will enhance Zimbabwe’s crime-fighting capabilities, particularly in rural areas where police presence is limited.
Speaking about the new acquisition, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa said: “These helicopters represent a significant investment in our country’s safety and security. They will enable us to respond more effectively to natural disasters and emergencies, and ensure that our law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to keep Zimbabweans safe.”
The acquisition of the helicopters is part of the Zimbabwean government’s ongoing efforts to modernize and upgrade its emergency response and law enforcement capabilities. The government has already invested heavily in expanding and upgrading its aviation infrastructure, with the construction of new airports and the upgrading of existing ones.
The new helicopters have been supplied by Russia-based helicopter manufacturer, Rostec State Corporation. The company is known for producing some of the most advanced and reliable helicopters in the world and has a strong track record of supplying helicopters to governments and emergency services around the world.
The acquisition of the new fleet of helicopters is expected to have a significant impact on Zimbabwe’s disaster management and law enforcement capabilities. With the new helicopters, the country will be better equipped to respond to emergencies and natural disasters, and also to fight crime and violence in the country.
