Harare, Zimbabwe – (African Boulevard News) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has filed his papers to participate in Zimbabwe’s upcoming elections, scheduled for July 30th. The President insists that the highly-anticipated vote will be peaceful, despite complaints from the opposition party over the equal distribution of resources.

The President has been in office since November 2017 after the removal of long-time leader Robert Mugabe. Mnangagwa is running under the ruling ZANU-PF party and will be looking to win his first full term. In a statement to the press, President Mnangagwa said, “I am delighted to have submitted my nomination forms today, and look forward to a peaceful and transparent election.”

The opposition party, led by Nelson Chamisa, has raised several concerns about the elections, including concerns that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is biased in favor of the ruling party, and that there is unequal distribution of resources. Despite these complaints, President Mnangagwa has stated that he is confident in the electoral commission and the transparency of the upcoming vote.

“We are committed to holding free, fair, transparent, credible, and peaceful elections, and our government will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation,” President Mnangagwa said in his statement.

The President’s nomination comes amidst growing concern over the state of the economy in Zimbabwe. The country has been struggling with a cash crisis since 2016, and recent currency reforms have sent inflation skyrocketing. Furthermore, many Zimbabweans are still waiting for the promised economic reforms and are concerned about the government’s ability to turn the economy around.

The President has promised to revive the economy, create jobs, and fight corruption if re-elected. However, many Zimbabweans remain skeptical of his ability to deliver on these promises.

According to analysts, the upcoming elections will be closely watched, not just for their outcome, but also for the level of transparency and fairness with which they are conducted. The Zimbabwean government will need to ensure that the elections are free and fair if they hope to gain the support of the international community and attract crucial foreign investment.

As the election approaches, tension is expected to rise. The government, opposition, and civil society groups must do everything in their power to ensure a peaceful and transparent vote. The eyes of the world are watching, and the fate of Zimbabwe’s future hangs in the balance.

“As a nation, we must work together to ensure that our people have the opportunity to choose their leaders freely, and that their votes count,” said President Mnangagwa.
