Khartoum, Sudan – (African Boulevard News) – The ongoing political crisis and escalating fighting in Sudan have led to a significant increase in basic commodity prices. According to a report released on Wednesday, the cost of basic commodities, including food and fuel, has skyrocketed by up to 60%, hitting already struggling households and individuals the hardest.

The situation has been exacerbated by the fact that the fighting has made it difficult for goods to be transported and distributed to various parts of the country. As a result, the cost of goods has increased significantly, leading to a spike in market prices across the country.

“What we live as those responsible for the transportation of goods is not hidden from anyone. All people are unemployed in the light of the war, and we in the transport sector suffer greatly because of the intense battles and the closure of large parts of the roads,” noted an unnamed transport sector worker.

Many people in Sudan are dependent on daily wages to make ends meet, which now stand at meager rates of around $10 a day. With prices of basic necessities soaring, it has become increasingly difficult for ordinary Sudanese to afford even the most basic of items.

The crisis has left many businesses struggling to keep afloat, with some closing down altogether. “As a result of the economic collapse in the country, many of the shops have closed their doors due to the unavailability of goods and inflation, which has negatively affected all aspects of the market and led to a lack of liquidity,” noted a local businesswoman.

The government has announced plans to provide subsidies to mitigate the rise in commodity prices. However, many are skeptical about the effectiveness of these measures and have called for more comprehensive efforts to address the root causes of the crisis.

As the situation continues to deteriorate, there are concerns about the impact on the country’s already fragile economy. The rising cost of basic commodities threatens to push many people further into poverty, while also hindering the country’s efforts to attract foreign investment.

In conclusion, the ongoing conflict in Sudan has had a devastating impact on the country’s economy, pushing up the cost of basic commodities and leaving many struggling to make ends meet. While the government has announced measures to provide subsidies, many are calling for more comprehensive efforts to address the root causes of the crisis, including the ongoing political instability and fighting. The situation is likely to continue unless a lasting solution is found.
