Pretoria, South Africa – (African Boulevard News) – A group of South African para surfers are making waves in their quest to compete in the Paralympic Games. The discipline has yet to make its Paralympic debut, but para surfers have high hopes this will happen at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

According to Yolanda Ndlovu, a para surfer and member of the Surfing South Africa (SSA) Para Surfing Commission, inclusion in the Paralympics would be a significant milestone for the sport. “We have been working very hard to develop para surfing in South Africa and to make it a recognized sport. The Paralympics is the ultimate stage for para athletes, and we would be honored to represent our country and our sport,” she said.

South Africa’s para surfers face various challenges in their pursuit of Paralympic glory. These include a lack of funding, limited access to equipment, and the need for specialized training facilities. However, the SSA Para Surfing Commission is working tirelessly to address these issues and support the athletes in their quest for success.

Ndlovu highlighted the importance of raising awareness of para surfing and the need for greater support from corporate sponsors and government entities. “Para surfing is an incredible sport that can change lives and inspire people to overcome challenges. We need more support to develop the sport and help our athletes achieve their dreams,” she said.

The SSA Para Surfing Commission is currently working on a national development program to identify and train para surfers from across South Africa. The program includes coaching clinics, national rankings, and the establishment of a national team to compete in international events.

In conclusion, as the world prepares for the upcoming Paralympic Games, South Africa’s para surfers dream of making their mark on the world stage. Their passion and dedication to the sport serve as an inspiration to us all, and we wish them the best of luck in their quest for Paralympic glory.
