Freetown, Sierra Leone – (African Boulevard News) – As the countdown to Sierra Leone’s presidential elections on June 24th continues, supporters of the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), gathered in the capital city of Freetown to make their voices heard. The opposition rally was a show of strength and defiance, as the APC party rallies behind its flagbearer, Samuel Sam-Sumana, in a bid to unseat the current government led by the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

The rally saw a massive turnout, with thousands of supporters converging at the APC party headquarters, which was adorned with party flags and banners. Amid the cheers and chants of APC supporters, Sam-Sumana addressed the crowd, promising to restore the country’s economy, which has been struggling since the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also pledged to fight corruption and improve access to education and healthcare.

“The APC is the party that can bring development and prosperity to Sierra Leone,” he said. “We will create jobs and business opportunities for our people, and we will ensure that no one is left behind.”

The opposition rally was held amidst tight security, with the police on high alert to avoid any incidents of violence, which have marred previous elections. The APC party has accused the SLPP government of intimidation and harassment of opposition members, but the government has denied the allegations.

“We believe in democracy and the right of opposition parties to hold rallies and campaign freely,” said the country’s Minister of Information, Mohamed Swarray. “We are committed to ensuring a level playing field for all parties in the upcoming elections.”

The opposition rally has generated a lot of interest, both locally and internationally, as the race for the presidency heats up. The APC party has a strong support base in the country, and Sam-Sumana’s candidacy has electrified the opposition, who see him as a credible alternative to the current government.

“The rally was a clear demonstration of the APC’s popularity and the people’s faith in our party,” said APC party spokesperson, Cornelius Deveaux. “We are confident that we will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections and take our country forward.”

As the campaign trail reaches its peak, both the APC and the SLPP parties are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to win the hearts and minds of voters. The stakes are high, and the outcome of the elections will have far-reaching implications for the future of Sierra Leone.
