Dakar, Senegal – (African Boulevard News) – The TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations 2023 has been marked by fierce competition and some surprising upsets, with Burkina Faso facing off against Senegal in the semi-finals. Despite their best efforts, Burkina Faso’s journey came to an end with a 0-2 defeat. However, midfielder Emmanuel Ouedraogo says the team gave their all in the match.

“We gave everything we had against Senegal,” Ouedraogo explained. “We knew it would be a tough match, but we were determined to give it our all.”

The semi-final match took place in Annaba, Algeria, on 2nd March 2023, with a spot in the finals on the line. Despite Burkina Faso’s valiant effort, it was Senegal who came out on top, with goals from Alassane Gueye and Cheikh Tidiane Diop proving too much for Burkina Faso to handle.

“Senegal played very well, and we have to give them credit. They were the better team on the day,” Ouedraogo admitted.

However, the midfielder was proud of his team’s effort throughout the tournament, saying that they had shown great character and determination to make it as far as they did.

“We fought hard in every game, and we can hold our heads high. We may not have won the tournament, but we proved that we can compete with the best teams in Africa,” he said.

The TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations 2023 has been a showcase of young talent from across the continent, with teams from 12 different countries vying for the championship. The tournament is a chance for players to showcase their skills and potentially earn a spot on their country’s senior national team in the future.

As for Burkina Faso, the team will now turn its attention to the third-place play-off match against either Ivory Coast or Nigeria. While the team may be disappointed to miss out on the chance to play in the finals, they will be determined to finish the tournament on a high note.

“We’ll give it our all in the next match, just like we did against Senegal. We want to end our campaign in the best way possible,” Ouedraogo said.
