Rabat, Morocco – (African Boulevard News) – French multinational conglomerate Alstom is facing challenges in delivering all their tramway trainsets for lines T3 and T4 in Casablanca due to the delay caused by the postponement of the maintenance center. This delay has led to Alstom not being able to finish the delivery of the trainsets.
The French group, Alstom, had been contracted to build the trams by the Moroccan government, but the delivery of the trainsets has been halted due to the construction of the maintenance center being postponed. The French group had initially scheduled the delivery of the tramway trainsets for December 2022, but due to the delay in the maintenance center’s construction, the delivery of the trainsets has been pushed back.
The Moroccan government had contracted Alstom in 2017 to build the trams for Casablanca’s T3 and T4 lines and to also construct the maintenance center where the trams would be serviced. The maintenance center would be used for the trams’ routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning.
According to African Intelligence, the maintenance center’s construction was expected to be completed in December 2021. Still, according to a source within the Moroccan Suppliers and Manufacturers Association, the construction is currently behind schedule and may not be completed until mid-February 2023.
This delay has put the French group Alstom in a challenging position as they may not be able to finish the delivery of the trams as planned. The Moroccan government had already paid the French group a significant amount of money. Hence, there are fears that the delay may lead to a legal tussle between the Moroccan government and Alstom.
However, the Moroccan government has stated that it is working with the French group Alstom to ensure that the delivery of the trams is done as soon as possible. In a statement, the Moroccan Ministry of Transport stated that the matter was under control and that everything was being done to ensure that the construction of the maintenance center was completed as soon as possible.
While Alstom’s contract with the Moroccan government is still ongoing, the French group has been facing significant challenges in Casablanca due to the delays in the maintenance center’s construction. As of now, it remains to be seen when Alstom will finally deliver the much-needed trams to Casablanca.
