Kigali, Rwanda – (African Boulevard News) – In the wake of the devastating floods and landslides that hit parts of Western and Northern Rwanda, Rayon Sports and Police FC – two of Rwanda’s biggest football clubs – have announced that they will observe a minute of silence in honour of the over 100 people who have tragically lost their lives as a result of the natural disaster.

The two football clubs, who are fierce rivals on the field, have put their differences aside to pay tribute to the victims of the floods and to show their support for the families and communities affected by the disaster. The minute of silence will be observed before the start of their upcoming match on Sunday, May 9th.

“It is a time for us to unite as one and show our support for those who have been impacted by this terrible tragedy,” said Rayon Sports chairman, Denis Gacinya. “We may be rivals on the field, but we are all Rwandans and our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and homes.”

The heavy rains that caused the floods and landslides have been attributed to climate change, which has led to more extreme weather patterns across the globe. Rwanda is not immune to the effects of climate change and has been working to reduce its carbon footprint and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

“We cannot control the weather, but we can take steps to reduce our impact on the environment and prepare for the effects of climate change,” said Police FC coach, Innocent Seninga. “It is important that we all work together to protect our planet and our communities.”

The minute of silence is a small gesture, but it serves as a reminder of the importance of solidarity and compassion during times of crisis. As Rwanda continues to recover from the aftermath of the floods, it is hoped that this show of unity from Rayon Sports and Police FC will inspire others to come together and support those in need.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities affected by the floods,” said Gacinya. “We hope that this minute of silence will honour their memory and provide some comfort during this difficult time.”
