In recent years, Morocco has experienced several smaller earthquakes, but they were not as severe as this one. The last major earthquake to hit the country was in 2004, which caused significant damage but resulted in fewer casualties.

“We have made progress in terms of earthquake preparedness, but there is still room for improvement,” said Minister of Interior, Ahmed Toufiq. “We need to invest in early warning systems, infrastructure resilience, and public awareness campaigns to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
