Mbabane, Eswatini – (African Boulevard News) – Eswatini’s government has proudly declared the results of its recent parliamentary elections, highlighting the success of a “free and fair” electoral process. With a total of 59 seats in the lower house of parliament up for grabs, 51 male and 8 female Members of Parliament (MPs) have been elected to represent the diverse voices of the country.

The announcement of the election results comes as a significant milestone for Eswatini, as it showcases the nation’s commitment to democratic principles and the empowerment of its citizens. The government’s assertion of a “free and fair” election underscores its dedication to promoting transparency and inclusivity in the political sphere.

In celebrating the successful election, Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We are delighted to witness the will of the people being reflected in the composition of the lower house of parliament. This is a testament to the democratic values we hold dear in Eswatini.”

The elected MPs will now have the responsibility of representing their constituencies and addressing pressing issues that affect the nation. Their role will encompass the formulation of policies, legislation, and oversight, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development and progress of Eswatini.

However, some critics have expressed concerns regarding the gender representation in the elected parliament. Despite progress being made with the election of 8 female MPs, this still falls short of achieving true gender parity.

In response to these concerns, the government has affirmed its commitment to gender equality and pledged to prioritize initiatives that promote the active participation of women in politics. By working towards creating an environment that encourages and supports women in leadership positions, Eswatini aims to bridge the gender gap and ensure equal representation in the political arena.

“The election results provide us with an opportunity to assess and address the challenges women face in engaging with politics,” says gender advocate Nomsa Mamba. “We need to continue advocating for equal representation and ensure that the voices and experiences of women are heard and valued in decision-making processes.”

As Eswatini forges ahead with its democratic journey, the election results serve as a reminder of the progress the country has made, while also highlighting areas that require further attention. With a diverse group of elected MPs, Eswatini is poised to tackle the nation’s challenges and work towards a brighter future. The government’s commitment to inclusivity and gender equality will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping Eswatini’s political landscape for years to come.
