Cairo, Egypt – (African Boulevard News) – The European Union has allotted $22M to Egypt to assist in the ongoing Sudanese refugee crisis. This comes after Egypt’s Foreign minister met with the European Union’s foreign policy chief on Sunday to explore strategic relations, economic partnership and close cooperation in the Mediterranean.

The Sudanese refugee crisis has affected many countries in the region, with Sudan and Egypt being among the hardest-hit. The crisis is a result of the civil war in Sudan, which has led to the displacement of over 900,000 Sudanese citizens. Many of them have fled to Egypt in search of safety and basic necessities.

The EU funding will be used to support the Egyptian government in its efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the refugees, including shelter, food, and medical care. It will also go towards improving refugee camps’ living conditions and strengthening Egypt’s capacity to support vulnerable refugees.

“The EU’s assistance will help provide much-needed relief to the Sudanese refugees who are facing unprecedented challenges,” said Sameh Shoukry, the Egyptian Foreign Minister. “We are grateful for the EU’s support and hope that this aid will help alleviate the suffering of the refugees.”

The Sudanese refugee crisis has strained resources and infrastructure in Egypt, particularly in areas near the border with Sudan. The influx of refugees has put a considerable burden on the country’s already overburdened health and education systems. The EU’s assistance will, therefore, play a vital role in helping Egypt manage the crisis and provide much-needed support to the refugees.

Egypt and the EU have a long-standing partnership, and the allocation of funds is another example of their strong relationship. This comes after similar assistance was provided by the EU to Egypt in response to the Syrian refugee crisis.

The EU’s allocation of $22M to Egypt is in line with its commitment to supporting countries in the region that are affected by the Sudanese refugee crisis. It is a crucial step towards alleviating the suffering of the refugees and providing them with a better future.

“We are proud to stand with Egypt during this challenging time and will continue to work closely together to address the humanitarian needs of the Sudanese refugees,” said Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The assistance from the EU is a significant boost to Egypt’s efforts to support the Sudanese refugees, and it will go a long way in helping them to rebuild their lives. The country’s continued partnership with the EU is essential, and it will continue to play a vital role in the region’s stability and development.
