Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – (African Boulevard News) – Burkina Faso has become one of the top nations in the world with the fastest-growing number of internally displaced persons due to the violence associated with the Al-Qaeda and Islamic State groups. This has led to more than 2 million people being displaced, with the number expected to increase.

The surge in internally displaced persons has put an enormous strain on humanitarian aid, with many aid organizations struggling to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter, and medical care. In some cases, aid organizations are unable to reach certain areas due to ongoing conflicts and insecurity.

“The situation is dire,” said Fatoumata Nafo-Traoré, the regional director for Africa in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). “The needs are immense, and the resources are insufficient. People are suffering and, in some cases, dying needlessly due to a lack of resources.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has also complicated efforts to provide aid to those in need, as it has disrupted supply chains and put a strain on health services. Furthermore, the pandemic has forced many aid workers to leave the country, exacerbating an already challenging situation.

“The humanitarian situation in Burkina Faso is deteriorating rapidly,” said Chris Nikoi, the regional director for the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in West Africa. “We urgently need more support to provide food assistance to those in need and to protect the most vulnerable.”

In addition to providing basic necessities, aid organizations are working to address the root causes of the displacement by promoting peace and stability in the region. This includes supporting community-led peace-building initiatives and encouraging dialogue between different groups.

Despite the challenges, aid organizations remain committed to supporting the people of Burkina Faso and ensuring that they receive the assistance they need to survive. However, they need more support from the international community to continue providing aid.

“We are calling on the international community to increase their support for the people of Burkina Faso,” said Nafo-Traoré. “We cannot do this alone. We need everyone to come together and support the people of Burkina Faso during this difficult time.”

In conclusion, the humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso requires urgent attention and action from the international community, as more than 2 million people are suffering due to violence and insecurity. Aid organizations are doing their best to provide assistance, but they need more support to meet the growing needs of the internally displaced population.
