Kampala, Uganda – (African Boulevard News) – The Ugandan police have arrested 20 people suspected of collaborating with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. The arrest followed a massacre that occurred last weekend, leading to the death of at least 42 people in a school shooting in Mpondwe.
The police revealed that the suspects included shopkeepers, farmers, and businessmen who had been providing food and supplies to the ADF rebels. In a statement by the police, they stated that “the group was made up of individuals who had been providing logistical support, such as food and other supplies, to the ADF rebels.”
According to the police, the suspected collaborators had been under surveillance for months before their arrest. The police revealed that the suspects had been in contact with ADF members in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), through mobile phones.
Police further revealed that they had raided several homes in the area, recovering several weapons and ammunition. The suspects are currently being held in custody as investigations continue.
President Yoweri Museveni has since condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly act of terrorism.” He has also promised to bring the perpetrators to book, adding that “terrorism will not be tolerated in Uganda.”
The ADF is an armed group that originated in Uganda but later found a base in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The rebel group has been accused of several attacks in the region, including the 2018 attack that left 15 Tanzanian peacekeepers dead.
The recent attack is one of the deadliest in recent years, and it has sparked outrage across the country. Many Ugandans have taken to social media to condemn the attack, with some calling for stricter measures to be taken against the ADF rebels.
The police have appealed to anyone with information about the suspects or the ADF rebels to come forward, promising to protect them. They have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their area.
In conclusion, the Ugandan police have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against the ADF rebels by arresting 20 suspected collaborators. The arrest would help in the fight against terrorism in Uganda and the entire Great Lakes region.
