Pretoria, South Africa – (African Boulevard News) – The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will face the Amajimbos of South Africa in their second game of the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ongoing in Morocco. Ahead of the match, Golden Eaglets coach Nduka Ugbade has warned his opponents that his charges will be landing more blows than they did in their previous match.
Despite creating tons of opportunities in the opening match, the Nigerian Under-17 side could only score one goal against the Young Scorpions of Gambia. However, Ugbade has promised that his team will be ruthless in front of goal in their next match against the Amajimbos of South Africa.
“We will score goals, we will create chances, and we will be ruthless; this is what we have been working on and we will execute it against South Africa,” Ugbade said.
The Golden Eaglets coach was pleased with his team’s performance against Gambia but believes they have more to offer moving forward in the tournament.
“I’m happy with the win against Gambia, but I expect more from my team. We created numerous chances but failed to put them away. We have been working on our finishing, and I believe the boys will show what they are capable of against South Africa,” he added.
Despite the warning, the Nigerian boys will face a tough test against the Amajimbos, who drew with Cameroon in their opening game.
The two teams have met nine times at youth level, with the Golden Eaglets winning six times and the Amajimbos victorious once. Two matches ended in draws.
The African tournament serves as a qualifier for the Under-17 World Cup scheduled to take place later this year in Peru.
Nigeria is a heavyweight in African football and remains the most successful team in the history of the Under-17 World Cup with five titles to their name. They are looking to add to their trophy cabinet in Morocco with a win in the Under-17 AFCON.
In conclusion, the Golden Eaglets coach has promised a positive reaction from his team in their next game against South Africa. However, they will have to be at their best against a resilient Amajimbos side who are also looking to progress to the next round of the tournament.
