Bamako, Mali – (African Boulevard News) – UN peacekeepers are leaving Mali in a hurry and under fire as security conditions deteriorate in the war-torn nation. On Tuesday morning, a convoy of more than 100 vehicles from the United Nations Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) hastily departed from their camp in Kidal and is now en route to Gao, a town in northern Mali.
The decision to evacuate the camp in Kidal comes amid an alarming rise in violence and attacks targeting peacekeepers. In recent months, the region has witnessed an increase in armed attacks by extremist groups, resulting in the deaths of several peacekeepers. The departure of MINUSMA from Kidal is a clear indication of the worsening security situation and the UN’s concern for the safety of its personnel.
