Accra, Ghana – (African Boulevard News) – A Ghanaian man is suspected of trying to take his own life after shooting his wife in an attempted murder-suicide in Columbus, Ohio, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
The tragic incident took place on Wednesday evening in the North Linden neighbourhood of the city. The Columbus Police were called to the scene after reports of gunshots. When they arrived, they found 36-year-old Jennifer Appiah with gunshot wounds to her head and body. Her husband, identified as 42-year-old Richard Appiah, was also found at the scene with a gunshot wound to his head.
According to the police, Richard Appiah is suspected of shooting his wife before turning the gun on himself in an apparent suicide attempt. Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but Richard was later pronounced dead.
Jennifer is still fighting for her life in the hospital, and her condition is said to be critical. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the shooting and are yet to determine what led to the tragic incident.
Speaking on the tragedy, Columbus Police Homicide Detective James Howe said, “These types of incidents are always tragic and especially hard when children are involved. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
The couple had two children, an eight-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, who were reportedly in the house at the time of the shooting. They were unharmed and are currently in the custody of the Franklin County Children Services.
The incident has shocked the Ghanaian community in Columbus, who are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. A member of the Ghanaian Association of Columbus said, “We are all in shock and disbelief. Our hearts go out to the family and especially the children, who have lost their father and their mother is in critical condition. We pray for her speedy recovery.”
