Yaounde, Cameroon – (African Boulevard News) – Cyprus is home to a growing number of African migrants who are using music to integrate into their new surroundings. The idea came from a Nigerian musician, Victor Moses, who was struggling to find work after arriving in Cyprus. “At first, some people were skeptical about the idea of migrants playing music,” he said. “But as soon as I started singing, often in Greek, people changed their view towards us. They became a little more welcoming.”

The initiative has been a success, with a growing number of African migrants joining the band and performing at local events and festivals. They play a range of styles, from traditional African music to modern pop and hip hop. Their music is not only helping them integrate into their new community, but also creating a bridge between cultures.

One of the band members, Saleh Abba from Senegal, said that music was a powerful tool for communication. “Even if you don’t speak the language, music can create a connection between people,” he said. “It’s a way to share your culture and your emotions.”

The band has also caught the attention of local authorities, who see it as a positive example of integration. The mayor of Nicosia, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, said that the band was a symbol of “diversity and coexistence”. He added that the city was proud to support the initiative and hoped that it would inspire other migrants to come forward with their own ideas.

The band has faced some challenges along the way, such as finding suitable venues for performances and dealing with occasional racism. But they remain determined to continue their mission. Moses said that he hoped their music could help break down barriers between different communities. “We want to show that we are not just migrants, but human beings with talent and dreams,” he said.

The initiative is a shining example of how music can bring people together and help break down cultural barriers. With the support of local authorities and communities, it has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of African migrants in Cyprus.
