Africa: U-20 Gambian football team triumphs over U-23 in charity match

Diaspora, Africa – (African Boulevard News) – The Gambia U-20 team emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against The Gambia U-23 in a fund raising match played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium. After a hard-fought battle, the U-20 team emerged winners with a scoreline of 2-1.

The match was organized to raise funds for The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) and was well-attended by football enthusiasts from across the country. The GFF president, Lamin Kaba Bajo, commended the players and coaches for their commitment towards the success of the match.

The game started with both teams showcasing their skills and trying to get the upper hand. The U-23 team dominated the early stages of the game, but the U-20 team gradually found their rhythm and began to create chances. It wasn’t long before they got their first goal through a brilliant finish from Alieu Jallow.

The U-23 team responded immediately and piled on the pressure, but the U-20 team held firm. The second half saw the U-23 team push hard for an equalizer, but the U-20 team held their nerve and doubled their lead through striker Alasana Jatta.

The U-23 team continued to push for a comeback and managed to pull one back through a well-placed free-kick from Mustapha Sarreh. However, it was too little too late as the U-20 team held on for a deserved victory.

Speaking after the match, U-20 coach, Mattar M’boge, expressed his delight at the performance of his team. “I’m proud of my players and their determination to win this match. It was a tough game, but they worked hard and deserved the victory”, he said.

The U-23 coach, Omar Sise, also praised his players despite the defeat. “We gave it our all today, and although we lost, I’m proud of my players for their effort and commitment. It was a great match, and I hope we can do it again soon”, he said.

Overall, the match was a success, and it showed the potential of Gambian football. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting the development of football in the country.
